A while ago on National Public Radio (NPR), I heard an interview with some officials regarding nursing home reform. One of the people being interviewed was a government official who oversaw quality of care in nursing homes. In that interview, he said something profound:
within 5 minutes I know if the quality of care in that nursing home is high
Then, he said this:
if I see painted toenails and hair that is combed and styled, then I can guarantee that the quality of care for those patients is high

Within a few minutes, can you tell whether a business or an operation is performing at a high level? In your line of work, what visual indicators can you see that can tell you the level of performance – within just a few minutes?

Do employees have smiles on their faces? Do they talk about their goals, or organizational complaints?
Yes of course…
Restaurants are a good one. Look at the cleanliness of the floor and tables. It will often indicate how good or bad your service and food will be.
Attention to details by a business is an indication of its management and leadership.
