Pareto Principle

Diapers Used in a Year Forms a Poopy Pareto Chart

We have a lot of kids – 9. Yup, 9 of them. But we cheated a little – we had twins and then we adopted 4 kids. My wife is amazing and without her, I’d have less hair than I do now. Though I try not to think about it, having a large family is super expensive – from formula, diapers, baby food, soccer fees, on and on and on. Kids are great, but they’re expensive. This interesting infographic puts the diaper aspect of children in perspective. And, as a bonus, it’s another example of Long Tail at work:

Wow. In the first 2 years of life, an average baby will need around 6,000 diapers, costing about $1,600. That means, after all my kids are out of diapers, I’ll have spent $14,400 just on diapers. Ouch. I would have rather spent some money on a wearable digital camera for sports. Notice the Pareto? The bar above is a comparison of cloth diapers compared to disposable baby diapers.
