Who Is Peter Peterka?

Peter Peterka has over 15 years of experience as a Certified Master Black Belt.

He has spent 20 years as an improvement specialist and engineer, working at major corporations such as Dell, 3M, GE, Hewlett-Packard, DOW, Motorola, Intel, Xerox, Seagate.

Peter was also granted the opportunity to work with the U.S. Men’s Olympic Team! Peter received his MS degree from Iowa State University and his BS in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University.

His career includes many accolades in developing and implementing Six Sigma practices across many organizations. He has also provided instruction in Process and Produce Development, Manufacturing Process Improvement, and Business Process Improvement.

What about Six Sigma for writing effectively? In other words, writing in such a way where the solution whatever is needed is included and described. We are not just talking about the DMAIC template when you are improving your day-to-day work processes; we are also including items such as resumes and job applications to the mix. 

Since the COVID crisis is coming to another phase as businesses reopen and companies are beginning to hire and are looking for top-notch candidates, many people are starting to revisit those resumes and job applications. For a resume, it should be written in such a way that the one looking to hire has found their candidate to hire, which is you. Think of your resume as the product — your customer is the hiring supervisor or manager at said company that you are applying to. 

Since each company has their own criteria for hiring, find out what that company is looking for and what they deem important, and position yourself to be the top candidate. It is that simple.

A resume is not a one size fits all kind of thing. Believe it or not, there are some companies that hire for reasons other than doing your job exceptionally well. Those companies have the philosophy that whatever you don’t know you can be taught, but being a team player is most important.

So do your homework, and learn to write in a way that encourages those who do the hiring that their solution is you!

In order for anything you attempt to work, there is a secret ingredient you must have and that is faith. Since this is Six Sigma and it is data-driven, maybe a better word is trust. Just look at the data provided by such companies such as Toyota, General Electric (GE), Amazon…the list goes on.

The online dictionary has the definition of faith as “belief that is not based on proof.” Well Six Sigma has proof, and this goes back in time. GE is living proof. They train all of their employees in Six Sigma — everyone is included, not just management. It is a complete collaboration, with mentoring included. 

Jack Welch knew in his gut this was going to be great. He had belief and trust in the Six Sigma system. Yes, there was proof in the system before Jack Welch, but only to those who were involved and chose to see it.

The belief you carry inside is the key to success in anything, including Six Sigma. What makes Six Sigma so special is that unlike anything else, Six Sigma has data to back it up, lots and lots of data. There is enough evidence and proof that Six Sigma works to keep the naysayers quiet; unfortunately to keep the yin and yang in our world they must exist.
