I think most people in management roles have a first hand understanding of this but don’t want to admit it because of fear of how it would reflect on their ability to handle their position. But there’s no shame at all in simplifying your life or the routines of your job and ridding yourself of non value added distractions and prioritization.

Econobiker – really good point. Yes, you’re right, there is a better way to pay for hosting I’m sure. Right now, ads are easy and convenient and they do the job. I’m sure most people have ad blindness by now, so I’m hoping not too many readers are as irritated. But you’re right – I apologize for the poor reader experience.

I have observed your overall layout and, especially, having advertising partner’s ads within blog postings, results in creating decision fatigue due to the graphic clutter. I just found your blog today and love the content but the graphic clutter is offsetting especially in some of the older posts which have book advertisement pictures within the content. Those pictures then break up the flow of the content when viewed via pc screen.

I understand that, if these ads are the reason for the blog- paying the bills (I.E: your primary reason for content is to gain advertising) then that is your reason – which is ok.
But the clutter made me want to subscribe via the RSS feed avoid the graphic clutter and not register as a direct viewer or clicks. Maybe the clutter is also not as apparent if read via tablet or smart phone.

Regards,
econobiker

I have said this often that far to often we get forced to make absolutely useless decisions and in the end we just loss the ability to make good ones. If you force your product or service consumers to make too many decisions you may in fact actually be driving them away, and preventing them from actually buying. It has personally happened to me in that I get tried of trying to decide which package to buy, and instead just do not bother buying anything. Recently we had to replace a built in appliance, after researching the different brands and each brands product list, we went to the one company that only offered two models. In fact offerring fewer models also meant they only offerred a very good high end product, but it had a mid-level price, guess they saved dollars on not designing another 10 to 12 models like most of their competition did.

How often could senior staff be saved from making minor meaningless decisions if they empowered those under them to handle them. They could than actually spend their energy and time on those few decisions that actully matter. Most businesses would gain two things one faster actual decision making, and two better quality decisions, seems like a true everyone wins situation.
