Six Sigma Certification Increases Revenue

Lean 6 Sigma Certification was developed by an engineer under the leadership of Bob Galvin. The process was designed to reduce the number of defects found in a production line or a process. Major companies such as Motorola, General Electric, 3M, Microsoft, Siemens, Ford and Caterpillar have improved their processes and increased customer satisfaction with Six Sigma Processes. In fact, General Electric earned more than $300 million during the first year after Lean 6 Sigma Certification processes were applied.

Lean 6 Sigma Certification has been successfully implemented in healthcare, telecommunications, education, IT, banking, manufacturing and the military. Each of these industries used professionals, who received Lean Six Sigma training, to implement the plans. 6 Sigma Certification for black belts typically lead the projects. Lean Six Sigma green belts and Six Sigma yellow belts will help Six Sigma black belts implement plans devised by the project leaders. Master black belts are also used to work with high-level functionality of businesses.

This Lean 6 Sigma case study will provide a better understanding of how the process and best practices are applied in an actual company.

Aluminum Can Recycling in Kentucky: A Case Study

The aluminum can recycling industry recognized that they can save money by modifying the processes used by companies. There are numerous benefits to recycling that must be explored to reduce waste and save money within an organization. This project was conducted by The Center for a Sustainable Aluminum Industry with the help of the Sloan Foundation and the University of Kentucky. This was one of the first attempts to methodically improve the recycling rates in the United States.

The United States is one of the largest consumers of aluminum cans. Each day, the country uses 300 million cans, or one can per every citizen in the United States. This product is highly recyclable, but the recycling rate for the product is low. The recycling rate was 50 percent in 2003, but it declined from the rate of 67 percent in 1992. The global recycling rate is only at 60 percent.

Kentucky strove to increase the number of recycling bins at individual homes in the state. When the project began, over 85 percent of the homes had recycling bins and had been using them. They thought that curbside accessibility would make it more convenient for people to recycle and increase recovery rates. The organization set a goal of to improve recycling by 20 percent. If the recycling rate was only increased by one percent, the company could provide 80 to 120 people with salaries of $50,000 each. This was the major impetus for this project that is in progress. Six Sigma processes guided the plan to increase recycling rates.
